Meet Princess Big Bear. We got her at eight weeks old from a friend of my step-daughter who had an unplanned litter of puppies. Her mother dog, while pregnant, had traveled from Tennesee to California. We were told that she was a mix of Rottweiler and Labrador Retriever, with a Tennesee porch dog lineage. As she grew she had none of the these characteristics so we had her DNA done. It turns out she is mostly German Shepherd and Chesapeake Bay Retriever, along with a whole bunch of other breeds that does not add up to 100%. So we tell everyone she's a North American Bear dog.
Bear is funny, she even makes bear growls when we scratch behind her ears. She has a sweet, playful personality. We don't walk Bear, she walks us, and we never know where we are going to end up. She is obsessed with catching the squirrels at the local park. Luckily she has not been successful. Bear also cannot resist chasing her large Chuck-It ball. And she also loves play fighting with her best buddy Roxy (another Shepherd mix) and her brother from another mother Charlee Bear (Terrier mix). We are lucky to have her in our lives.
