Abby is the fourth Golden we've had in our family. We rescued her from abusive owners when she was two years old. When Abby first came to our home, she was terrified of most men and, strangely, the color red. (The holiday season completely freaked her out - - way too many red bows hanging on wreaths.)
Over time, she started trusting us and now rarely leaves our side. She's actually a terrible retriever, yet has an insane sense of direction, always knowing the routes on hikes and walks and finding her way back to us when she goes exploring. Her perfect day: waiting until dad wakes up and hearing the clink of dog food hitting her dish; bringing mom her hiking shoes and nudging her to get out of the house; hitting the trails with canine friends (Rocky, Cody, Charlie, Jolie, Lily); finding every, single possible mud puddle to cool off; coming home to a warm bath; settling in on her favorite chair to sleep off the rest of the day with her stuffed duck -- until the next clink of food wakes her up. In her golden years, it's a good Golden life.
