I had been toying with the idea of adopting a small dog and shared my desire with clients for some time. One day my phone rings and a woman I see out and about calls to say that she is at the pet store and the police had dropped off this Yorkie found on the highway and it was up for adoption. Curious I called and spoke to the manager who informed me that the dog I was inquiring about was actually a Pekingese and that rather than put him into a shelter he took him home because the dog was one of the sweetest, most personable animals he had ever known ... all attempts had been made to find his original owners. After a lenghty list of questions on both ends I just had a gut feeling and without hesitation told him that I would adopt the precious being sight unseen and arranged to meet that evening.
Three of us got in the car and took off on the 20-minute drive to the appointed rendezvous and sure enough there was the store manager waiting in his vehicle. He gets out of the car and goes to the passenger side and lifts out this beautiful blonde baby boy who has a smile as bright as any I'd ever seen. Placing him into my arms he nestles in and the mutual snuggle of love created our bond immediately. Upon arriving home Peeky was quite the curious little guy and found the cat a perfect playmate to befriend which went surprisingly well. As they say home is where the heart is and he seemed to be as happy as can be.
Daily I delighted in the joy my little friend brought me and all he encountered. He walk proudly on his new tartan leash and as he pranced his smile beamed , constantly being acknowledged by people we'd pass or who asked to greet him. In no time at all I knew I had been blessed with one special little boy , so full of love and with a nature and personality that continually warmed my heart and brought such joy. It's funny but Peek A Boo knows his audience and when we are out knows it's his parade and da club that awaits. He loves little children and if we are going someplace I allow extra time to get there as he insists on greeting his admirers and has even been known to crawl into a stroller or two when prompted by an adoring toddler and their beaming parent. He's equally as loving of seniors and it brings me happiness to see the effect his attention has on them. Given these traits and my new status of being semi retired I'm looking into Peeky training as a Therapy dog because his precious gifts and loving nature would indeed help heal other.
Peeky and I are together four years now and the vet seemed to think he was just about a year when I got him. It's known now that any invitation that comes our way is for two and a more mannered guest a hostess could not find. We love our adventures and a five mile walk doesn't daunt this plucky fellow. He loves the car and being floated across the pool on his raft. Baths are in the kitchen sink with pleanty of playtime after under the towel. When I crawl into bed at night her comes right up to his nook under my arm and in the morning saying my prayers at the foot of the bed he places his outstretched paws on my hands and gazes into my eyes. He's the joy of my life and I truly believe a divine intervention. Love my Peek A Boo.
