This is my dog Poppy, but I just had to include her best friend Nora, too. Nora is moving away, and I wanted to celebrate their one-of-a-kind friendship.
Nora (hound mix) and Poppy (retriever mix) met three years ago as tiny puppies. Nora said, "I like you, but I'm in charge, OK?" Poppy said, "OK!" and a great friendship began. They share a love for exploring, wrestling, and racing in the woods.
Nora has a lot of beagle in her and dreams of catching squirrels and foxes. She is quick and nimble and literally runs circles around Poppy. Nora is sweet, strong-willed but well-disciplined and obedient, and loves to roll in poop.
Poppy is half Labrador and half Golden Retriever, and loves fetching, water, and especially fetching in water. She outweighs Nora by 30 pounds yet usually ends up on the bottom when they wrestle. Poppy loves everybody and everything with a puppy-like joy.
Nora and Poppy play for hours in the early morning, several days a week, in sun, rain, and snow. Allowing them to be silly dogs once in a while makes them better pets and companions. We love to watch their wrestling moves: the full-throat attack, the downhill back slide, the reversal stick bluff, and the leashed-up death match. Then they return to their own homes and nap for hours.
Alas, Nora is moving away. We humans are so sorry to break up this friendship but they will both go on to make new friends and have new adventures. And look forward to the day when they get to visit and play together again. They are BFFs - Best Friends Furever!
