Harley was a Christmas puppy. I am 15 years old, and never had a dog that I could remember. I was very upset, seeing as I loved dogs. I would take the neighbors dog for long walks, wash her, brush her, feed her, train her...I even secretly named her. But when I was 11, the dog was dognapped. The other dogs were not as willing to stay out all day in the woods. And they definitely did not want a bath.
I begged my dad to buy me a Golden. I would stay on the Internet for hours, looking at Goldens. Finally I decided to raise money. I did odd jobs, babysat, but mostly pet sat. Finally. In December, three weeks before Christmas, I had $200.00. I ran to my dad and told him I wanted to go out and look for a puppy that exact day. But I couldn't. I wouldn't be allowed to get a dog. At all.
Christmas day I woke up and walked downstairs, doing the routine search for a dog. Previous years had landed me a stone sculpture of a Golden, a stuffed Golden from F.A.O. Schwartz, and other small figurines and pictures. My dad always hides a big gift in his room, so my two brothers and I walked in, me lagging behind and moping, until I saw the tubby bundle of yawning fur peek out from under the bed. I was speechless.
Since then, Harley has learned SO fast. It is hard to keep her interested because her spice for life makes her so willing to learn. She learned how to roll over and army crawl in 10 minutes. She does various other things, from sit to "find your ball". She truly is the most special and intelligent pet I have ever owned.`
