Jiraiya
is my English Cream Golden Retriever. I never intended to get a
second puppy... until my best friends nephew was killed by a drunk driver.
Hari and his girlfriend were coming back from the park with their four dogs.
Hari stepped in front of the speeding car and pushed his girlfriend out of
the way- saving her life but losing his own. Harison loved everyone- and he
loved dressing up as the Anime character Jiraiya for conventions-Jiraiya
whose hair was a fluffy white mane.
Once I got the idea to get a male white golden and name him after Hari's
character, it was a done deal! As is turn out, Jiraiya is so much like his
namesake - the sweetest, most gentle, and most loving animal I have ever
owned. And strangely, in many of the photos we take of him, a beautiful
golden orb appears... We like to think it is Hari watching over him.
Jiraiya is a big "love slug" and the complete opposite of his ball-obsessed
sister (Trixie Hobbitses). Jiraiya will only fetch sticks and Frisbees -
never balls. He brings me an offering of some toy, usually a tug rope or
nylabone, when I get home from work. He loves to swim and fetch this duck
floaty-toy, but is so mellow and lazy about it he starts to sink! He is super
laid back - he waves more than wags his tail, and he enjoys watching TV.
Several things he is competitive about are bones and apples. He rears up like
a Lipizzaner horse and leaps for the biggest juiciest apples in the tree. He
also is an artist when it comes to burying bones. I tease him and call him
"The Banker" because he always has a stash of them and he is so sneaky and
good at it, you can never find where he put them. Nobody can ever be angry
with him though because of his sweet temperament - he loves everybody and is
especially gentle with children and the elderly. I plan on training him as a
service dog so we can go to childrens' hospitals and retirement homes and
bring some puppy love!
