This
is quite a special dog - I'll never see another like her! She sleeps on
her back often and is very active and fun to tease. We play fun games with
her and have taught her numerous tricks; she even knows the difference
between shake and high five (which we taught her during hockey season)! She's
most definitely a part of our family. :)
After our German Shepherd Mandy died, I found an ad on tv for a website where
you could find pets that needed homes from shelters locally. We didn't expect
to find any dogs we'd fall in love with, but sure enough there was Nadia's
sweet little face! She was one in a litter of seven or eight and one of her
brothers looked exactly like her in his picture. She's a Boxer/Lab mix with
possibly German Shepherd in her as well. We drove from Pittsburgh, PA to Ohio
just to get her and found out that her and her brother looked so similar that
they had taken the same picture of one of them and posted it for both! Their
names then were Cinder and Cinderella. My brother and I didn't want to split
them up, but we couldn't take in two dogs so we chose Nadia. When we arrived
home we learned that she was only five weeks old, so she had a few problems that
last to this day. For example, one odd thing she does that makes her so
unique is her need to suck on a chew toy or old rag as if it were her mother.
She still does that now, actually.
She also has the odd habit of sleeping on her back, and when she's done
eating and is happy she'll run into the living room and roll over and kick
her back legs up into the air like a crazy thing! I included one picture of
her upside down, where we've given her various nicknames like "fruitbat" and
"rigormortis"! She loves to play and is easy to tease ... we'll run and hide
from her and stomp our feet and call her name and when she finds us we'll
scare the living daylights out of her and chase her all through the house
only to do it again!
Nadia loves to run and go out on the dog trail even though we don't do it
very often. She's not very social with other dogs but there are a select few
she'll play with and actually behave decently around. She's never done
anything biting-related, and she's a very loyal dog. She hates to go to the
kennel so usually when we're away someone will come to our house and watch
her and the cat, who get along quite well. Our cat Tiggy loves to tease Nadia too! :)
One thing that everyone always seems to notice about Nadia is her beautiful
eyes. She's really a pretty dog and she's very smart. We've taught her the
basic tricks (sit, lie down, shake, etc.) and a few more unique ones,
including high fives and a trick where we'll hide all the little treats
around the living room so that she can try to find them. Nadia keeps us
entertained for sure, and we always love having her around!
