This
is my dog, his name is Fitz and he is three years old. He's a pure
breed UK Registered Basset Hound and we are from Ireland. Fitz is blind in
both eyes, and has been completely blind for about eighteen months, before that
though his sight was deteriorating, it is something he was born with. He
also has seizures (also called fits) because of a reaction to an injection
when he was a pup, hence his name. He cottoned onto the fact that he was
being called "the pup with fits" as we had a litter of pups. By changing it
to Fitz, it is a good Irish name!
Although he is blind this does not stop him at all, he's a happy little
chap and gets by. He plays with the other dogs in the house and any other
dogs he meets out, he always wants to say hello to everyone he encounters
and loves getting attention. If we didn't tell people, they'd never know he
was blind, as with hounds - and Bassetts even more than other breeds, the
nose rules over all other senses anyway! We sure love our Fitz!
