My
name is Mikaela and I am almost sixteen years old. I have always talking about
getting a dog, though I knew that everyone in the family was allergic. So was
I. But it did not bother me if I only was around one. We lived in a house
with our pets, four turtles and a rabbit. It ended up that we had to find new
homes for the turtles because it was just too much to take care of them, and
then we received word that we have to move to an apartment. And I was told we
had to rehome our rabbit when we moved.
Before the move itself, I got GAD(generalized anxiety disorder). I lay on the
sofa around the clock and screamed like a pig because it felt like I was
choking. I stopped eating and drinking, lost weight, and went nowhere without
my mother. She had to sleep with me on the couch so I could sleep.
When we moved, everything became a little better. The medicine had begun to
help and we came away from the pesky house. We moved into the apartment above
parent's friends, Taxen and Sen. They have a long-haired miniature dachshund,
and a guide dog that is a Labrador. Then I saw my chance to get to go out
with the Dachshund. I went out quite a lot with her, but I could not cuddle
when I wanted. She was not my dog.
Taxen's mum had a sister. When mum's birthday came, her sister and would
congratulate her. They were neighbors. Sen told my mother that her sister
also had a dog; a little Chihuahua named Cesar. I was very curious and asked
if I could go to her house and watch Cesar. When I got there, I was greeted
by a small fawn-colored guy who scolded me with his whole being. I sat down
on the stairs and watched him while he barked. He was so incredibly sweet!
A few days later I went up there with my mom and I sat down on the floor and
let him sniff me. It took a few days until he would not bark when I got
there. A few days after, he met me on the stairs when I arrived. I always
took treats with me to give him. So I taught him this, it was a piece of
cake! I took him for walks went with him every day! His owner is wheelchair
bound and can not go out with him, but she sent her 70-year-old mom with
COPD! He only got to walk 50 meters (164 feet) a day if he was lucky. When I started to
take him for walks, my stomach working again. I played with him on the
football field. He had never been so happy! When my mom and I sat and talked
with his owner, we learned that he had been assaulted by her former husband.
He had thrown him, kicked him and shot staples at him! Cesar felt so good to
me. We also saw that he had no fur around his eyes, so we took him to the vet
for her. He received cortisone eye drops for allergies and was much better.
Soon, the small lashes even grew back!
He had to sleep with us from when he started his meds. He has not slept apart
from us since. I was so much better in my anxiety when he came to our house
and he didn't bother anyone's allergies. He's also great! He used to bite
when they gave him food, and he barked at everything and everyone, and they
said he had bitten several people too. But now he does nothing of it! Best of
all is that I tauight him not to do all that stuff!
Then came the news we feared. She wanted to take him back. I just went home
and sat on the couch with Cesar my arms and cried and cried. I felt so
incredibly bad! When we went up later, she said that we would have to buy him
because she saw how sad I was. So now Cesar is ours for real! The bad thing
we found when we got the pedigree and vaccination papers was he had not been
vaccinated regularly, only once since the first vaccination! And when we
looked at the inspection papers, we saw that he had no problems. We have
always noticed that he has protruding ribs on the left side. Everyone we
talked to has said it was an extra rib, but then it would have been on that
paper. That meant that his ribs have been protruding because he wasn't
getting fed enough, and didn't get his proper care from his owner. But now
it's great, because I've got him, and with love, care and food, he is healthy
and as good as he is today! We saved each other!
What I wanted to say with this story is that when I had it really really
tough, Cesar came to me. He saved me. Without him I wouldn't have keep
fighting to conquer my own illness! Thank you Cesar!
