Bug
is special because she's Bug. That doesn't really explain a lot but she's who she is.
We adopted her when she was four months old. Out of all the breeds that I've
looked at, pugs were the perfect fit for my husband and I. She used to sleep
on our chests, right on our necks and snore.
Who Bug is varies from day to day but it usually is hilarious. She's super
patient and tries in her Buggy way to communicate with us silly humans. She
hasn't quite grasped the concept of barking when she wants something but will
instead go to the farthest corner of the room and either snort or breathe
loudly to get your attention while staring at you as if trying to
telepathically tell you what she wants. If that does not work she'll tap
dance around in circles while staring and snorting until you ask her "what?!"
She knows several words and commands. She only knows how to sit and speak,
but usually acts like you are speaking martian by the way she looks at you
until you offer her "bacon" - then she sits and speaks at the same time
several times in a row before you can even ask her.
Other words she knows are "buffalo," "chicken," "puppy chow," "water" and
"sausage." If you say any of the food words while she is in earshot she will
stop what she's doing and stare at you. Sometimes she will snore but she's
awake and secretly staring at you. It's all part of her puggy mind control.
She likes to play cracker dog, which is when she goes into her play stance
and tries to attack your feet and then starts running in circles while
barking. She also likes to play "Captain Buggy" in which she gets into her
daddy's lap while he's in his office chair and they roll around the room. She
stands up and looks alert as if she's staring out over the open sea.
She's convinced her food bowl is possessed. I think maybe once she bumped it
and it moved skid across the floor. Now she has a wary relationship with it
and watches it for movement. If she gets a piece of food (she eats one piece
at a time) she runs in, grabs one and runs away. She might bark at her bowl
if she's particularly suspicious.
She likes to share her toys, but only on her own terms. This usually means
bringing it and laying it on your feet while it's slobbery wet while she
chews on it. If you reach down for it, she grabs it and runs away. So thoughtful.
If she had her way, she'd be in someone's lap or laying next to them at all
times. She loves everyone and everything and is super outgoing and
affectionate. She also seems to understand when you are sad and tries to help
you feel better.
That's our Buggy in not-so-much-of-a-nutshell!
