Willa
was born special, having been born without any front legs, but it was
part of her plan to take over the world. Willa was rescued, along with her
brother Webster, from a hi-kill shelter in California by Mutts'n Stuff Small
Dog Rescue. They are both chi-weiners- a Chihuahua / Dachshund mix. She came to
my attention when her rescuers contacted us, Eddie's Wheels, to make her a
dog wheelchair.
Alas, adopting out a disabled dog is always a challenge, and after three months
in rescue, Willa and Webster were still homeless. Eddie's Wheels, which we
own, decided to adopt both of them in order to more fully appreciate the
training challenges of dogs born without forelimbs.
Willa was a very quick study in her cart and mastered it easily. She is a
very confident, sassy little dog who takes over any room she's in. She loves
all dogs and bullies her brother Beau, a paralyzed pitbull. From southern
California and now living in snowy New England, Willa chases the sunbeams
around our shop and can often be found napping while sitting up in her cart.
She loves to go to vet conferences and pet expos and take center stage.
Willa's a tireless advocate for specially-abled pets! She's my hero!
