Recovered from a dog shelter, Ruby found her way
into our home via a relative at Christmas. Being previously owned by a
hunter and supposedly being gun-shy landed her in the shelter in the
first place. We got her when she was only 3 so we've gotten used to all
her habits and quirks over the years. Personally Ruby is my first dog so
it's been an interesting experience for me.
She still has her hunting instinct and loves nothing betterr than to chase rabbits and birds round open fields while out on walks. Although she rarely catches
anything, she seems to enjoy it. In the evenings she loves to curl up in front of the fire and sleeps quite peacefully.
One of her best tricks we belive she picked up from the previous house she wa in. It involves letting herself into the house. To do this she jumps up onto the door and bashes her paw down on the handle to open the door. It was quite surprising at first but you gradually get used to it. Fortunatually out house has mostly rounded handles to her trick only works on the outside doors to our house but it's still amusing to watch.
Another thing about Ruby is that she's great with children and lets even the smallest of hands pet her without complaint or any sign of agression whatsoever. She's normally very quiet at the best of times and only barks for attention if she's lonely. She has come to understand our routines and settles down when we're leaving the house and gets really upon seing our return. She just loves company and offers lots of love in return.
To be honest when we first got her, I couldn't imagine life with her, now I can hardly imagine life without her!
