We found Piper at the Animal Shelter in January of 2015. We were looking for a small female dog and searched most of San Antonio before realizing the perfect pet was two miles away. The shelter volunteers had named her Sprout, and she was the first dog I had visited when I began my search.
Piper is energetic and playful. At first she didn't know how to play with toys, but it didn't take long to uncover her natural retrieving instinct. She has the most adorable facial fuzz and happy-go-lucky personality. When she is excited she lets out a low growl, and that is about the most noise you will hear from her. She loves our two small boys so much that she waits outside their doors in the afternoon while they nap.
Our oldest son is the perfect match for Piper. The two of them play together endlessly. She will antagonize him when he gets dressed. She loves to snatch his socks as he tries to put them on. He returns her unconditional love with kisses right on her lips.
There is so much Piper understands about our family, all of it learned through her very observant nature. She can see us get ready to leave the house and runs to her kennel on her own. She hears the television turn off at night and will go to her kennel then, too.
Sometimes we joke that Piper is part cat. She likes to walk the back of the couch and will even take naps up there. One day I caught her batting the blind cord with her paw also.
We are happy to say that Piper is the best dog we have ever owned. She has never met a stranger, be it a person or another dog. We look forward to a long happy life with her.
