Piper is a hard-working hearing service dog (alerting to both sounds and to rattlesnakes when necessary - even those who have lost their rattles. She is also a joyous bird-flushing Springer - even if the grouse are only imaginary - and she is a friendly, attentive therapy dog when called into that role in public places. She is a fabulous twelve years old and counting.
She goes everywhere with me and we have traveled to 15 different states, both by air and by car. She thinks the Airport TSA officers operate a travelers' massage stop. Pilots come to greet her and she thinks the world is a friendly and interesting place. With Piper at my side, I see the world the same way. We continue to meet interesting and curious folks and answer many, many questions about service dogs in general and hearing loss/hearing aides in detail.
As a service dog, Piper, often visits museums, some of which are very fussy about their antique wooden floors. Piper is still good to go with her "museum" socks which you can see in her third picture. They work well until one swings around, making it look like she has dislocated her foot!
We have also met close to 100 folks who are anxious to share stories about their own special Springer Spaniels. Here is a call-out to all of these treasured Springers.
