Kimber, the Dog of the Day
Name: Kimber
Age: Four years old
Gender: Female Breed: German Shorthaired Pointer
Home: Claremore, Oklahoma, USA

This is our crazy German Shorthaired Pointer, Kimber. She was a Father's Day gift for my husband four years ago from his daughter and son-in-law. We have had a variety of dogs over the years, but none of them could compare to this dynamo. We have fourteen acres of mostly pasture land that has become Kimber's personal hunting grounds. She could spend all day running from one end to the other chasing rabbits, birds, squirrels, mice, lizzards or anything else that might have encroached on her acreage. When she is inside the house with us, she is either crashed out on the floor, stalking our poor kitty or peering out the window from "her" recliner.

Kimber has faced a few traumas over the years. Two years ago she contracted Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and was very sick. But thankfully our vet was abled to get her well again. She is a smart dog that can tell me what she wants by looking at me then looking at what she needs - like her food bowl or the back door. Around five o'clock each day she brings me her treat ball which she personally customized by enlarging the hole. Now when I put the treats in she is able to take it to the living room and dump them out on the floor. If some get hung up, she picks up the ball again and shakes it until they fall out. She will bang against the back door and wait for me to open it. Sometimes she just wants inside out of the weather. But quite often she is wanting someone to come outside to play. If that is the case, she will stand there on the porch after we open the door and gesture with her head and eyes that she wants us to go hunting with her. And how can you turn down a face as cute as that.

There is one lesson Kimber has not been able to learn. After four experiences just this past summer, she can't seem to remember not to chase the black and white "kitty" that must live out by the barn. But at least we found a great deskunking solution online that is a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and dish soap. It is only at this point that I remind my husband that "She's your dog!"

Kimber keeps us entertained daily. I can't imagine life without her. We both love her very much. I hope you all enjoy reading her story and seeing her cute little spotted self.
