Orca, the Dog of the Day
Name: Orca
Age: Deceased, Ten years old
Gender: Male Breed: Siberian Husky
Home: Idaho, USA

I'd like to introduce my Siberian Husky, Orca. I got him from a litter when I was nine years old. I grew up with him and shared many adventures with him. We had our shenanigans together, our difficulties together, and some tears together. As I went through all the teenage transitions, relationships, and friends he was always by my side. You'd know because he would always look at you if you were having a rough time with understanding and compassion.

He was always a member of the family, but these past three years he seemed to know that no one looked at him as a 'pet' or dog. Two years ago he suffered incredible liver failure around that same time. He couldn't get up or move and wouldn't eat anything, and we all thought that was going to be the end of him. He pulled through in two terrifying weeks after every vet said there was just no way. I was by his side the entire time. The two years after that he was in perfect health - always eager to go hiking, fishing, snowshoeing, and camping. When he wasn't doing any of those he was sound asleep, keeping my bed warm.

Early July this year, he had some noticeable problems right after a camping trip we were on when he had seemed to be in superb health. It seemed sudden, but at 4am one Sunday morning I awoke to him having a seizure on my bed. Not knowing what to do, I just held him so tight until it subsided. Between 4am - 7am he had three seizures. We took him to the pet ER and found it to be tumors in his stomach that had fully expanded that were also affecting his eating, sleeping, and overall brain activity. I buried him at my dad's property out in a river canyon that same day. At twenty years old now, I know I can't ever fill the spot he had in my heart. He was my best friend and a part of my family.
