Hattie the Yorkshire Terrier, the Dog of the Day
Name: Hattie
Age: Four and a half years old
Gender: Female Breed: Yorkshire Terrier
Home: Ephrata, Washington, USA

Hattie is our little tri-color parti diva. She's a purebred that comes from champion bloodlines, and she's AKC registered. We haven't had her for very long, but we are already deeply attached to her sweet personality.

Hattie is a girl who now enjoys the fancier things in life, such as being brushed and having her hair done. And her favourite treat/snack is cheese, but she also really likes watermelon. She also enjoys being petted and held, and going on walks around our neighbourhood. Everyone who's met Hattie so far, has fallen in love with her.

We got Hattie a few months back from a breeder here in Washington state. The breeder was basically running a puppy mill, and had almost 30 Yorkies. She'd bought Hattie in hopes of being able to breed her, and make a pretty penny off of her puppies. Unfortunately for Hattie, every time she'd go into heat, the breeder would stick her Into a small cage with a male Yorkie. Every time, she ended up having a miscarriage. This constant cycle went on without breaks for almost five years. And in those five years, she only had one puppy. A little white daughter that was bought before we got Hattie.

After she had her puppy, the breeder went ahead and had Hattie spayed. It was around this time that we first came across Hattie. We had gone up to the breeder's to simply look around, and when we got there, the breeder basically plopped Hattie in our arms and said " She's your's, take her. " Since Hattie couldn't have any puppies, the breeder saw no point in keeping her, and just wanted to be rid of her. So she gave Hattie and all her papers to us for free.

We brought Hattie home with us, and you could tell that she was truly happy. She ran around our backyard, yipping and wagging her little tail. She enjoyed the space so much because the breeder always kept her locked up in a cage because she didn't get along with the others Yorkies.

Now days, Hattie is happy and healthy. She's the queen bee of the house, and often play fights with her little brother Buckley, our Basset Hound puppy. We adore her, and are glad to give her a happy life from this point on.
