Daphne
is a rescue dog that spent the first six months of her life living on
the streets. It is a miracle that this tiny sweet dog survived, and that she
is now such a loving pet.
When "Papillon Haven Rescue" first sent me photos of Daphne it was hard to
believe that this delicate puppy had never had a home. Daphne had lived the
first six months of her life surviving on the streets. The next three months were
spent with a Foster family that specialized in problematic rescues. Daphne
was considered a tough case not because she was mean or crazy, but simply
because she scared of everyone. When I first met Daphne, she would not let me
pet her. After two hours she finally let me hold her but still she trembled
and pushed me away. I questioned whether adopting her was a good idea. She
was not going to be the cuddly puppy I felt I needed. I had just gone through
my own tragedies. In the span of a few months I had lost my job, my dog of
eighteen years, and then suddenly my mother. How could this trembling little dog
help me? She needed a lot more love than I thought I had to to give. But one
thing I did feel was I couldn't give her back, so I would do my best to give
Daphne a loving home.
A year later and I'm proud to say Daphne is a happy dog. She enjoys stealing
my socks, Chasing flying, and going to the office. She also enjoys snoozing
on the couch. But most of all she loves to be held and cuddled. I've been
trying to get a photo of her smiling but every time I tried, she just gave me
"the Daphne curious look" (all eyes & ears). I love her!
