Morgan
is a black Labrador Retriever rescue who spent at least two of his
three and a half years, prior to coming to live with us, tied up in a
driveway. Fearful of people, he also panicked whenever anything was put
around his neck.
He arrived untrained and, as mentioned, very wary of people but both issues
were quickly rectified. From the start he went everywhere with me and quickly
picked up on the fact that not all Humans are abusers. As we like to say, his
"inner labrador" eventually came out. He now eagerly seeks people's attention
rather than shying away from them.
As well as the normal commands (sit, stay, down, etc.) he rolls over, crawls,
jumps over (objects), says hello (extends his paw) and sits/lies on stumps
and picnic tables. We live where the snow can be on the ground six months and
he's very adept at pulling me out of snowbanks. He also loves to run and play
with his toys. Whenever I'm upset or sick he gets as close as he can and
offers comfort until I feel better...he's very attuned to the slightest upset.
Morgan has an incredible joi de vivre, is always ready for an adventure, a
swim or a long hike in the mountains where we live. One of his favorite games
is tug ... so the living room is often filled with fluff, "pelts." and a very
happy dog. I grow a lot of the fruits and vegetables we eat and he patiently
helps with all my outdoor activities. His sweet face is a daily reminder to
me of what really matters in life; loving, playing, napping, being loyal,
eating well and actively displaying compassion and taking care of each other.
