On
October 29th, 2014, I found Boris on the side of the road. He had no
collar or ID, he was starving, and he was in very bad need of a bath and flea
dip. The next morning I took Boris straight to the vet to be examined.
Luckily he had a clean bill of health, except for the emaciation and flea
problem. (Both of which are taken care of now!) The vet guessed his age at
seven to nine years old.
I reported him as found and posted his picture on our local "lost and found
pets" Facebook page. No one ever claimed him. Several things lead me to
believe that Boris was a breeder at a puppy mill, and then dumped when he
became too old. But I don't like to focus on his past life, it's too upsetting.
Today, he's a happy-go-lucky old man who gets along wonderfully with my other
three dogs and several cats. He gets free roam of the farm he now gets to call
home, and he has a family. He adores my mom, dad, and I, and he's never more
than a few steps behind us when we're outside. He gets more and more
energetic as time goes on, he even spins in circles when I come home from work!
The funniest thing about him? As soon as my mom's car pulls into the
driveway, he runs diagonal to it and leads her all the way to the garage. Our
own personal parking attendant! I don't know how we ever got along without him!
