Pepper was found by animal control wandering in the bushes with a limp. They thought she had been hit by a car and took her to a vet. The determined that she had not been hit, but was limping because she was born without three of her toes on a hind leg and grew it into a sort of straight peg leg. So, she walks with a slight limp. Fortunately, she was taken directly to a dog rescue organization and we found her two months later.
She's the smartest of the many Blue Heelers I've owned. But she's not a frantic herding dog that needs a job to do. Instead, her happiness is to be inside with her humans, snuggled on her dog bed and getting up every 30 minutes and asking for a pet.
She loves to immediately flop over on her back asking for a belly rub. She loves all dogs and whenever she meets a dog on the hiking trail she'll sprint up, do an initial sniff, and then bend down with her tail wagging asking to play chase. Sadly, most dogs don't want to play chase with her.
Because her history is unknown, it's an estimate about her age. The only time she uses her devious brain is when she's bored, breaks out of the backyard, explores the neighborhood and then waits at the front porch to be let back in. A lot of resources have been poured into the backyard to limit the escapes. But in the end, she has found her pack and always comes home. Plus, she's chipped, has her name and our cell phone stitched into her collar.
She's our smart, devious, bed potato dog!
